Abstract
Background: Suicide is one of the major global public health concerns and especially among the youth. It is usually linked to cognitive illnesses like depression and anxiety, as well as drug abuse, and social pressures such as bullying and troubled relationships. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a video-assisted teaching program on enhancing knowledge regarding suicide prevention among young adults. Materials and Methods: A quantitative research approach was adopted using a one-group pre-test post-test design. The study sample consisted of 30 first-year BSc Nursing students aged 18-21 years. Results: The results revealed that in the pre-test, 66.67% of students had low knowledge, 23.33% had average knowledge, and 10% had high knowledge. Post-test results showed significant improvement, with 83.33% of students demonstrating high knowledge and none having low knowledge. The mean score improved from 4.6 ± 0.212 to 12.6 ± 6.04, with a mean difference of 8. The paired t-test value was 2.26, higher than the table value of 2.756 (p<0.05), indicating significant improvement. Conclusion: The research highlighted that demographic factors significantly influenced knowledge levels, suggesting the need for targeted educational strategies in suicide prevention.
